Direct thermal printing uses dye sublimation as part of the printing process. As the ribbon and the card pass under the print head, the head heats the dye. The dye then penetrates the card surface and forms a colour image. High print quality at 1200 dpi makes it possible to reproduce black text, dark skin tones and crisp barcodes. This type of printing is ideally suited to applications where photo or portrait quality matters. A custom watermark can be added for additional card protection.
